When does media for the sake of entertainment become dangerous? Empty When does media for the sake of entertainment become dangerous?

In the right circumstances games, movies, music and apps are great to have when there's downtime. But some people push those opportune times to the limit or just refuse to clock out period.

Pokemon Go dropped in the summer of 2016 and it was awesome but the resulting damages due to car crashes or personal injury or people even dying were devastating. The National Bureau of Economic Research said the damages added up to 7.3 billion dollars in only the first few months after Pokemon Go got released.

With the new Harry Potter app that just dropped from the same company that created Pokemon Go history might repeat itself. So where is the breaking point? How do we make things safer with entertainment like this when common sense isn't so common anymore?

It is interesting to think of the negatives that are associated with the overuse of apps like Pokemon Go! I recall hearing so many positives and benefits of how the game connected everyone and joined people together along with being physical, but the media often disregarded the negative side of not being able to disconnect. I think that apps like Pokemon Go are addictive in a very similar way to social media sites. For many who would walk around with their mind constantly wanting to check their Pokemon Go app, it is the same for those who walk around craving to see if they have gotten new likes or comments on social media. These addictions cause people to go to great lengths to check on what they are missing even if that risks loosing their life. Ideally there would be a setting on apps like these that did not allow for people to use them while driving. Unfortunately at this time this simply is not very realistic. I simply do not know at this time how we can limit these games to keep people safe, as addictions prove more powerful than common sense. At this point, educating people on the dangers though it is not much may be our only choice.
