Fear is Overrated

I think advertisers/marketers/news reporters try to use the method of fear too much. It's hard to try and target a specific audience to use this method on, thus why some will use it mass personally. However, because of repetition of commercials that try to induce fear, some have been able to change their negative feelings they now have about the product called fear control. I believe that fear can be used in a positive way, but as far as using it for telemarketing I do not think it will be very successive, for example, there are commercials that inform people about the dangers of smoking, but thousands of people still smoke every day.
